Frequently asked questions
What is the Margin Trading Facility (MTF)?
MTF lets an investor buy shares by paying only a fraction of the total value, with the broker funding the rest. The investor pays interest on the funded amount and holds the position on leverage until it is repaid or sold.
What do MTF positions tell you about a stock?
They show which stocks are being bought on borrowed money. A large or rising funded value can indicate bullish sentiment, but it also means elevated risk: if the price falls, leveraged holders can face margin calls and forced selling.
What do funded quantity and funded value mean?
Funded quantity is the number of shares held under MTF at the end of the session. Funded value is the amount brokers have funded against those positions, in ₹ crore. The figures under each and the Change in Value column compare the latest session with the previous one.
Does this cover the whole MTF book?
No. The table covers the most-funded stocks only, and the funded-value total is the sum over those rows, not the market-wide MTF book.
How often is MTF data updated?
MTF positions for each trading session are reported on the next trading day, so the latest figures are usually one session old. The date above the data shows which session they describe.
