Frequently asked questions

What is the F&O ban period?
When open interest in a stock's futures and options crosses 95% of the Market Wide Position Limit (MWPL), the stock enters the F&O ban period. During the ban no new positions can be opened; existing positions can only be closed.
What is MWPL?
The Market Wide Position Limit is the cap on total open interest across all participants in a stock's futures and options. MWPL % is futures-equivalent open interest as a share of that limit.
Why is a banned stock below 95% MWPL?
The ban lifts only once open interest falls back below 80% of MWPL, so a stock can stay banned well under 95%. The status column follows the exchange's official ban list for the day, not the MWPL % figure.
What does Near Ban mean?
The stock is not on the ban list, but its open interest is at least 80% of MWPL. This list shows every stock currently in or near the ban.
How often is this list updated?
MWPL figures are published once per trading day after the close. The date at the top of the page is the MWPL date the list reflects.
