Bull Case 7
  • Strong TTM revenue growth of 24% indicates robust demand and improving top-line momentum

  • 5-year compounded profit growth of 8% shows the company has maintained profitability even through volatile input cost environments
Bear Case 8
  • TTM profit declined 6% despite 24% revenue growth, signaling margin compression and rising input costs
  • 3-year compounded profit growth is negative at -1%, indicating earnings stagnation over a meaningful period
  • Stock has corrected 12% over the past 1 year, underperforming broader markets and reflecting weakening sentiment
  • PE of 32.6x is elevated for a fertilizer/chemicals business, leaving limited margin of safety if earnings disappoint further
  • ROE has declined from 22% (10-year) to 16% (last year), a notable deterioration in return on equity
  • 3-year compounded sales growth of only 2% suggests the recent 24% TTM surge may not be sustainable
  • Dividend yield of just 0.56% offers minimal income cushion for investors during periods of capital depreciation
  • PB ratio of 4.61x indicates the stock is priced at a significant premium to book value, which may limit upside

Headwinds 1
  • GST penalty ₹12.35 lakh Aug 21

Coromandel received a ₹12.35 lakh GST penalty order from Jammu Commissionerate on Aug 20, related to FY2018-19 ITC mismatch. The company has filed an appeal.

Positives 1
  • Dhaksha opens drone plant Aug 24

Subsidiary Dhaksha Unmanned Systems inaugurated a new manufacturing facility in Kancheepuram, targeting agriculture and defence drone capabilities.

TL;DR: Coromandel is diversifying beyond chemicals with its drone subsidiary Dhaksha opening a new manufacturing plant, signaling growth ambitions in agriculture-tech and defence. The GST penalty of ₹12.35 lakh is financially immaterial for a company of this size and is being appealed. Overall, the news flow is mildly positive with no significant operational or sectoral headwinds emerging.
